Forum Title: Cased opening?
I have an outdoor kitchen which has basically a closet or pantry built into the building. Where are the door is supposed to go right now there is nothing and I want to see what I can do to clean this up. I don't want to have a door there I would rather just trim it out and make it look great. My problem is I don't know what materials to use. I measured the opening today and it is approximately 4 1/2 inches wide. Which is basically the width of the two by four and both sides of drywall. I would love to hear your suggestions on doing this.

Welcome to the forums. Let me make sure I read this right - as long as it is not locked, the door will move itself to the half open position regardless of whether it was left open or closed?

This is all inside the building. Maybe I should have stated that. Basically this building has one big room and we built a little closet in a corner.

4 1/2 is perfect... You can buy jamb stock... it is 4 9/16 wide... the sides are 81 long and dadoed on one end, a top piece can be cut to any length needed and fits between the side jambs. Nail it together, make it about 1/2 smaller than your opening so that you can plumb it up, use tapered cedar shims around the rough opening as needed. Add trim onto the face of the wall on each side, leaving about 1/4 of reveal (a step in from the inside edge of the jamb to the edge of your trim).
